Mood boards have been slowly gaining traction, especially when it comes to creating a website design. You see, far too often before, many designers and clients really do not meet at the middle when it comes to the design of their website.

Sometimes, the final product is not up to par with the standards of their clients, thus losing both time and resources for both parties.

However, mood boards have made it so that designers can give a visual representation of what the final output will look like and so that the clients will have a better understanding of the entire project.

With that being said, how do you create a mood board? Here are some important things to keep in mind:

Draw Inspiration from Different Sources

When creating a mood board, it is important that you gather inspiration from different sources. You could go to an image platform like Pinterest to gather pertinent pictures or you could make use of your environment as inspiration as well. Take photos wherever you go; who knows, you might get an idea by doing so.

Getting as many images from different sources will broaden your horizons and give you more ideas that will help satisfy your client.

Ask About What the Client Wants

When it comes to client satisfaction, it is important that you ask them up front about their expectations and what they really want in the final design of their website.

By knowing their expectations, you can craft a mood board that will help satisfy their intentions. Remember, a mood board is basically a visual guideline that will help not only you, the designer, but also the client’s vision as well.

Asking them about what they do not like about the design will narrow down your options until both of you can get on the same page.

Make Use of Different Platforms and Tools

Fortunately, there are plenty of tools that you can use to create a mood board. You will need these platforms so that it will be easier for you to swap out colors, provide texts (just as sample content) and it also gives you a structure that you can present to your clients as sort of a mock-up.

Again, the use of a mood board is just a guideline, so the design is tentative until it suits the demands of your clients.

Think of the Design Only

Although design and content go hand in hand, especially on the finished website, it is important that you solely focus on the design aspect first and foremost.

You see, content can be added at any time after the website creation, but the design is something that is always going to be there once it is implemented.

Furthermore, focusing on the design will only help you with time management and so that you can deliver the project on time.

You can, however, add some text just so that you will have an idea on how it looks like. But again, be focused more on the design than the actual content first.
